Why is a bird exam different?
For birds, stress is a health risk in itself — so the exam starts from a distance: posture, breathing, feathers and droppings are observed while the bird is still in its own cage. Then comes a short, controlled hands-on exam: beak, nostrils, breast muscle, abdomen and vent, plus a weight on a precision scale. Droppings and blood tests complete the picture where needed.
Two practical requests when you visit: bring your bird in its own cage, lightly covered with a cloth — and don't clean the cage floor before coming. The most recent droppings are valuable diagnostic information.
The problems we see most
